What can communities do to help be prepared?
Wealden recognises the vital role of local community volunteers and we all should be grateful to the extensive network of Parish Emergency Volunteers that are available to support the Emergency Responders (including Local Authorities) in the event of an Emergency. Wealden is one of the few Districts in England with an Emergency VHF Radio network, manned entirely by volunteers and supported by Wealden District Council. If you are interested in volunteering your services, please contact your local Town/Parish Council.
In continuing encouragement of Community based Leadership to ensure our best possible collective resilience, a document has been produced by East Sussex County Council, Wealden District Council and the other four Borough and Districts in East Sussex. This document is entitled A Strategy for Community Based Emergency Planning and provides guidelines to communities on how members and residents can create their own Emergency Plan and improve their community's resilience in the event of an incident. Supporting the guidelines in this document is the recently published
"Town and Parish Emergency Groups" Guide (pdf document, September 2003).
