Air Quality Alert
airALERT is a pilot service, provided by the Sussex Air Quality Steering Group (SAQSG), that will send free messages to your mobile or home telephone, informing you that poor air-quality is predicted in your area of West or East Sussex .
Generally good air quality in Wealden
Reviews and assessments have been carried out by the Council to consider the quality of air in the area. Following Stage II of the review and assessment it was discovered that the air quality in the local area is generally good and meeting the objectives for air quality.
The review and assessment will need to be redone on a bi yearly basis since the air quality targets are likely to improve and the assessment methods will change from time to time.
Recently in the summer of 2006 an Updating, Screening and Assessment report for Air Quality was completed. This indicated that there was no requirement to proceed to a Detailed Assessment as none of the air pollutants considered exceeded levels set out in National Regulations.
This report covered carbon monoxide, benzene, 1,3 – butadiene, lead, nitrogen dioxide, PM10 and sulphur dioxide. Part of the report looked particularly at air quality within one of Wealden’s busier town centre’s. The detailed study indicated that even in the busiest part of the town air quality pollutants did not exceed legal levels.
Wealden Council monitors air quality and the information is used when preparing reports and undertaking assessments in the area. The Council is also part of the Sussex Air Quality Partnership group and is also therefore able to draw on information from other areas.
