I am a British Citizen living abroad, can I vote?
Yes you can vote in Parliamentary and European Parliamentary Elections if you are registered as an overseas elector.
To be eligible you must:
- be a British Citizen
- have moved abroad less than 15 years ago
- have been on the electoral register before you moved abroad
You can download and print an Overseas Claim form pdf format (19.4 kb). The accompanying Overseas Notes pdf format (20.9 kb) give more detail of the criteria for being eligible to register as an overseas elector.
As an overseas elector you can apply to vote by post or proxy (a proxy is where you appoint someone in the UK to vote on your behalf. You can download and print the forms here: (pdf formats)
Please use these forms to apply for your postal or proxy vote and not Part 6 of the overseas application form.
